Mainz loses in German Cup

Jul 31, 2009 - 9:38 PM FRANKFURT(AP) -- Newly promoted Bundesliga club Mainz lost 2-1 at fourth-division Luebeck on Friday in the first round of the German Cup.

Luebeck scored the winning goal in extra time to beat last year's semifinalist.

Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg won easily 4-1 at third-division Wehen Wiesbaden, getting two goals from Zvjezdan Misimovic and one each from Grafite and Edin Dzeko.

Bayern Leverkusen, the other top-division team in action, struggled to a 1-0 win at fourth-division Babelsberg, with the goal coming from Eren Derdiyok in the second half.
