Revolution-Union Preview

Jul 30, 2010 - 3:23 PM By ZAC POWELL STATS Writer

New England (4-9-2) at Philadelphia (4-8-2), 3:30 p.m. EDT

The Philadelphia Union and New England Revolution have not had too many bright spots this year. The clubs, however, are coming off impressive wins.

These teams look to build on those victories as the Revolution visit the Union on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia (4-8-2) ended Toronto FC's eight-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 home win July 17, while New England (4-9-2) snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating MLS-leading Los Angeles 2-0 on July 10.

Marko Perovic's goal in the 67th minute snapped New England's 347-minute scoreless streak.

"I think it's huge to get some forward momentum," coach Steve Nicol told the Revolution's official website. "We've had a bad run, no question about it, but they came out and fought as hard as they could."

The Revolution, though, enter this game with five straight losses on the road, getting shut out four times. They will now take on a Union team that has won two of three at PPL Park since it opened June 27.

Before the victory over the Galaxy, the Revolution were shut out in five of their previous six overall. They have scored the second-fewest goals in the league with 15 and four have come in seven road matches.

Sebastien Le Toux scored on a penalty deep into stoppage time to give the Union the win over Toronto. He leads Philadelphia with seven goals and seven assists.

"I think it was a fortunate reversal today," coach Peter Nowak told the Union's official website. "It was good to win a game in this fashion. I think the better team won today."

The Union will have two new faces in the midfield Saturday in Justin Mapp and Eduardo Coudet.

Mapp had 14 goals and 36 assists in 174 games for Chicago before being dealt to Philadelphia on Monday, while the 35-year-old Coudet had 56 goals in 400 games while spending most of his career in Argentina.

"I know a couple of the guys, and I know Peter has done a good job with them and I've seen a couple of their games and they play pretty well, despite not getting all the results," Mapp said. "Even when we played them in Chicago I thought they were a very good team. Hopefully we'll do well the second half of the season."
