Seattle eyes first win against Chicago

Apr 8, 2011 - 7:55 PM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC goes in search of its first win of the Major League Soccer season on Saturday when the club hosts the Chicago Fire at Qwest Field.

Seattle was considered to be a serious contender in the deep Western Conference before the season began, but after successive 1-0 defeats to the Los Angeles Galaxy and Red Bull New York, those expectations were scaled back a bit.

A 1-1 draw with Houston followed before a 2-2 stalemate at San Jose last time out, but head coach Sigi Schmid knows that his team must start picking up three points.

"We want to get three points," Schmid told the league's official website. "A lot of other teams tied (Saturday), and it would have been a good chance for us to jump up. At times we're playing good soccer. I didn't think the second half was particularly good soccer from us. I think we played better soccer in the other three games. I thought the first half at times we played some very good stuff. We just got to be sure we can put 90 minutes together on the field."

Seattle has managed just three goals in its first four games, and the club was without striker Fredy Montero for last week's game in San Jose after he underwent wrist surgery. However, Schmid has said that the Colombian is day- to-day.

The Fire enjoyed a weekend off after recording a 3-2 win over Sporting Kansas City in its last game, although the match was much closer than it should have been.

Chicago went up a goal and a man in the 34th minute when Kansas City's Omar Bravo was sent off for pulling down Gaston Puerari inside the penalty area. But the Fire still allowed two goals, leaving Logan Pause less than satisfied with the win.

"We made it pretty interesting," Pause told the league's website. "We're disappointed with the goals we gave up, but the priority in the first game at home is setting the tone, and getting three points is crucial. We'll learn from our mistakes and move on."
