Whitecaps set to tangle with Dynamo

Apr 8, 2011 - 9:51 PM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC will make its first visit to Robertson Stadium on Saturday to face the Houston Dynamo, which is still in search of its first win of the season.

Houston has drawn its last two games after opening the season with a 1-0 defeat, but head coach Dominic Kinnear must be pleased with the way that his team battled back to earn a 1-1 draw with New York last time out.

After falling behind in the 47th minute, Houston answered three minutes later through Cam Weaver to grab a hard-earned point.

While the club has yet to win a game this season, midfielder Geoff Cameron believes that the result against New York is a positive sign for the team.

"In the beginning of the season, when the team is still trying to find its groove, it just shows the character of the team this year, compared to last year, where we could have lost this point (vs. New York). And I think that's a good step in the right direction," Cameron told the league's website.

A first win would certainly appear possible with a home match against an expansion team, but Vancouver has performed well through its first four games, and Houston is battling injury issues with Calen Carr (concussion), Jermaine Taylor (foot sprain) and Brian Ching (rib separation) each expected to miss the game, while Brad Davis (hamstring strain) is doubtful.

The Whitecaps have been involved in some highly entertaining matches this season with the club scoring eight goals in its first four games.

A 4-2 win over Toronto FC got the season started well, while two goals in stoppage time from Camilo helped Vancouver to an unlikely 3-3 draw against Sporting Kansas City.

But the team was on the other end of some late-game heroics against New England on Wednesday, as a stoppage-time equalizer forced the Whitecaps to settle for a 1-1 draw.

On the bright side for Vancouver, captain Jay DeMerit could be fit to return to the lineup after battling a groin strain, but both Gershon Koffie and Eric Hassli will be suspended for Saturday's match after picking up red cards in Wednesday's contest.
