Sounders claim first win of season against Fire

Apr 9, 2011 - 10:12 PM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC claimed its first win of the season on Saturday at Qwest Field as first-half goals from O'Brian White and Steve Zakuani propelled the club to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire.

White's goal arrived after just seven minutes as Mauro Rosales delivered a cross from the right wing that White redirected inside the right post with his head.

But Chicago (1-1-1) answered just one minute later when Patrick Nyarko got down the right wing and sent a low cross into the area for Diego Chaves to fire inside the far post with a first-time strike.

Zakuani gave the Chicago defense trouble throughout the match and he took a pass from Osvaldo Alonso on the left and cut into the box before rolling a shot past goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

The chances dried up a bit in the second half, but it took a great reaction stop from Seattle (1-2-2) goalkeeper Kasey Keller to preserve the win in the 58th minute.

A deflected free kick fell into the path of Chaves eight yards from goal and his low shot was headed toward the bottom corner of the net before Keller got down to keep the ball out.
