Galaxy could be missing stars for Chicago trip

Apr 15, 2011 - 6:25 PM Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy has taken just nine points from its first six games this season, and the club will be hoping to add three more to that total on Sunday at Toyota Park against the Chicago Fire.

The Galaxy is coming off of a disappointing 0-0 draw at Toronto FC on Wednesday, and although L.A. was clearly the better team on the day, luck was not on their side according to midfielder David Beckham.

"We had the chances, we just couldn't put them away," Beckham told the club's official website. "When you have that many chances, sometimes you need a bit of luck on your side and we just didn't have it."

"We hit the post, we hit the crossbar a couple of times and we had the majority of the play and the majority of the chances. But it's disappointing. Obviously we want to win these games."

Maybe more disappointing than the result is the fact that Beckham picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the draw, ruling him out of Sunday's match with the Fire through suspension.

Juninho also picked up a red card late in the game, meaning he too will miss out on Sunday, while Landon Donovan's status is still uncertain after the United States international has missed the past two games because of a knee injury.

The Galaxy has failed to score more than one goal in any of its first six games and without those three players, the offensive woes figure to continue.

Chicago was also busy in midweek, suffering its second successive defeat on Thursday night in Portland, a 4-2 setback.

The Fire fell behind by three goals in the first 47 minutes before rallying to cut their deficit to one goal in the final 10 minutes, but head coach Carlos de los Cobos was more pleased with the effort in the second half, and chose not to dwell on the first-half performance.

"I was satisfied with the team when we were losing 3-0," he said. "We reacted very good, we were close when we scored the 2nd goal. It's a shame because our players made a great effort. We played much better in the second half and we need to learn off of this."
