Revs edge Sporting on late Lekic winner
Apr 24, 2011 - 1:46 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution earned a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer action at Gillette Stadium on Saturday. The Revs debuted U.S. international Benny Feilhaber in their midfield, and it paid almost immediate dividends as he assisted on the game's first goal in the 12th minute.
Feilhaber controlled the ball at the top of the Sporting penalty area before playing a perfectly weighted pass to Marko Perovic for a one-time shot from about 25 yards that found the back of the net.
Kansas City equalized just two minutes later on a Kei Kamara goal before taking the lead late in the second half on another Kamara tally - his second of the game and third of the season.
The go-ahead goal was scored on a penalty kick that Kamara drilled past a diving Matt Reis.
But less than five minutes later the Revs responded with their own quick- strike equalizer when Shalrie Joseph skied to head a free kick over Jimmy Nielsen for his third goal of the season.
The Revs went up a man in the 76th minute with the score tied at two when Sporting's Aurelien Collin earned his second yellow after a collision with Reis.
The Revs took advantage when Zak Boggs played a cross from the right side that was skipped into the net by Rajko Lekic with seven minutes to play for the game winner.
New England (2-2-3) will aim to build on the win at Chivas USA next Saturday, while Sporting Kansas City (1-3-1) will be gunning for just its second win of the season at Red Bull New York the same day in its next MLS match.
