Chicago comes back from 2 down to earn draw at Toronto

May 15, 2011 - 1:30 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire came back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw vs. Toronto FC in Major League Soccer action at BMO Field on Saturday night.

The Reds (2-4-5) got the game's first goal inside 10 minutes when the reigning MLS Player of the Week, Joao Plata, cut inside, past a defender in the offensive third and curled a low, hard, right-footed shot just inside the right post for his second goal in as many games.

That was how the score stayed until two minutes after the break when TFC took advantage of a miscue by Chicago goalkeeper Jon Conway.

Maicon Santos got the goal when he blasted a 35-yard prayer on Conway, but the ball skipped through the 'keeper and in for the 2-0 advantage for the home side. it was Santos' third goal of the season.

Shortly after that, Chicago (1-3-5) substituted in forward Orr Barouch and started chipping away.

Barouch contributed to the first goal when he was fouled just outside the TFC penalty area, giving Marco Pappa a free kick. Pappa made no mistake, firing a perfect shot over the defensive wall and just under the crossbar for his fourth goal of the season to cut TFC's lead to 2-1.

Nine minutes later Barouch scored the equalizer after Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei deflected a service from Corben Bone to the far post, and Barouch slide in to knock it home with his knee. The goal was Barouch's first in MLS, while Bone earned his first assist.

Frei saved a share of the points for the home side by robbing Chicago attacker Dan Paladini, was sprung into the area by a Bone pass. Paladini's right footed shot from the middle of the box was swatted away by Frei, and the teams settled for a share of the points.
