Timbers improve to 5-0 at home with win vs. Crew

May 22, 2011 - 5:09 AM Portland, OR (Sports Network) - The expansion Portland Timbers improved to 5-0-0 on their home turf - Jeld-Wen Field - with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.

Eric Brunner scored the game's only goal in the first minute of the second half after the teams battled to a stalemate in an uneventful first half.

The goal came after the Timbers earned a free kick just outside the Crew penalty area. Jack Jewsbury quickly played the ball to Kalif Alhassan in the area, and the attacker crossed into the six to Brunner, who headed home for his first goal of the season.

With the win, the Timbers move into a tie for second in the Western table, while Columbus falls into a tie for fourth in the East.
