Red Bulls host Rapids in midweek clash

May 24, 2011 - 8:00 PM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rapids travel to take on Red Bull New York at Red Bull Arena in a Major League Soccer clash on Wednesday night.

Both teams are coming off draws this past weekend and will be gunning for the full points in the midweek fixture.

The Rapids are currently unbeaten in five league fixtures, but also have just one win in their last eight. A lack of consistent offense has been the main culprit.

"It's another one where we feel like we walked away with a positive effort but nothing to show for it," Rapids midfielder Jeff Larentowicz told mlssoccer.com after a scoreless draw with Toronto FC on Sunday.

Colorado (4-3-4) is hoping for a more consistent effort with a quick turnaround to New York.

"This is probably going to be a little bit of a microcosm of the rest of the year," Larentowicz said of the trip. "We know that games are going to come quick. It's just a tough one. That's why we wanted to get full points [vs. TFC] because playing in New York against a strong squad is going to be difficult with midweek travel. That's why we wanted to win but this is our life. We move on, we have to play another game."

New York (4-2-4) is moving on as well after rescuing a draw at Houston thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer by Mehdi Ballouchy.

The Red Bulls got a first-minute goal from Dane Richards, but eventually went down 2-1 before Ballouchy rescued a share of the points for the visitors.

The Red Bulls, who are supposed to be the class of the Eastern conference, were outplayed for long stretches in the game on Saturday, something they will need to correct if they want a positive result on Wednesday.

"They've got a lot of good players, but it comes down to us putting it on ourselves and I think we can do better managing the game," Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall told the league's website after the game. "In the end, we needed to keep the ball better and needed to fight harder than them to win set-piece battles."
