FC Dallas takes shutout streak to Seattle

May 24, 2011 - 8:41 PM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - FC Dallas last allowed a goal in Major League Soccer on May 1, and can set a new club record shutout streak Wednesday night at Qwest Field against Seattle Sounders FC.

Dallas' current shutout streak sits at 399 minutes, which is just 16 away from the club record set just last season of 415. Although it won't take a shutout against Seattle to break the mark, another shutout on the road would be big.

"I think it's been great," FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman sad. "I mentioned that to the players (after a 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake on Sunday).

"I think the team is playing good defense."

Dallas (5-3-3) struggled early this year with three losses in its first four, but is undefeated in six straight games. The last four have all been shutouts, although two are scoreless draws against D.C. United and Real.

And in the last three games, which includes victories over Toronto FC and the Philadelphia Union, have been at home at Pizza Hut Park.

Along with goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, central defenders Ugo Ihemelu and George John have helped lead the defense during its shutout streak, which dates back to a Landon Donovan goal in a 2-1 Dallas win.

Dallas grabbed the winner in that match in the 88th minute after a rain delay, and was able to overcome a 112-minute weather delay just Sunday for the draw against Real Salt Lake.

"I thought it was a little bit of a difficult game for both teams," Hyndman admitted after the match.

Dallas is currently second in the Western Conference, five points behind L.A., but has four teams within just two points - including Seattle.

Seattle (4-3-5) is level with Real and the Portland Timbers on 17 points - one behind Dallas - and could move up to second with another home win Wednesday.

Sounders FC lost their season opener at home to L.A., but is undefeated in its last five at home and beat Sporting Kansas City, 1-0, last week on a stoppage- time winner from Jeff Parke.

Seattle temporarily moved into second place with the victory, but slipped back down the table after other Western teams posted positive results. Sounders FC veteran goalie Kasey Keller has his sights on second place again.

"It was nice going in after the game to see us in second place," Keller said on Seattle's website after the win over K.C. "It'd be fantastic to be able to do that again and play that team ahead of us and beat them at home and see us just below LA."
