Galaxy eyes improvement against TFC

Jun 10, 2011 - 7:39 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Goals could be at a premium on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center as the Los Angeles Galaxy gets set to host Toronto FC.

Los Angeles will be carrying a seven-game unbeaten streak into the contest, while TFC tries to win for the first time in five games.

However, despite the disparity in form for both sides, the last three games between the two have resulted in 0-0 draws, including the last time the two played on April 13.

The Galaxy has kept clean sheets in its past four games, and its shutout streak has now reached 411 minutes, marking the third-longest streak in MLS this season.

But despite those impressive numbers, the team may be coming off of one of its worst performances of the season in a 0-0 draw with D.C. United last time out.

"[The] performance was absolutely poor. There was no quality to our game, our passing was poor, effort was just OK. Just didn't get it done. No excuses. That was a poor performance," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "The only good thing about [Friday] is that we lost those games last year."

L.A.'s attack was lifeless in the draw with United, and maybe part of the reason was the absence of leading scorer Landon Donovan, who is away on international duty with the United States at the Gold Cup.

In addition to Donovan, L.A. goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is also at the Gold Cup, playing for Jamaica, with Josh Saunders filling in between the posts, while midfielder Juninho is back home in Brazil for his wedding and will miss the match.

TFC also was involved in a 0-0 draw in its last contest, which came last weekend against Sporting Kansas City.

The Reds have failed to score in two of their last three games, and coach Aron Winter will be hoping for added help in attack with Alan Gordon and Jacob Peterson returning to fitness.
