RSL hopes to rebound at first-placed Union
Jun 10, 2011 - 8:29 PM Chester, PA (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake travels to take on the Philadelphia Union just three days after suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 loss at Columbus in a mid-week Major League Soccer fixture.RSL (6-3-2) held the lead for most of the game on Wednesday, but gave up two fluky goals in the final 15 minutes to take just its third loss of the season.
"I think that apart from the first 15 minutes we didn't manage the game very well, tactically we didn't stay compact enough," RSL coach Jason Kreis said. "We got too stretched out, we lost the ball in really critically bad positions and when you do those things it causes you to defend for long stretches and I thought Columbus was unfortunate not to score in the first half. Because of that it really affected the energy we played with in the second half."
Now, Kreis and his team have to find a way to rebound on short rest.
"We're going to need to regroup pretty quickly," Kreis said. "We've got to regenerate. We've got guys in the ice bath right now, and we'll take care of them over the next couple of days, because that four o'clock kickoff on Saturday is going to be a huge challenge."
Philadelphia (6-3-3) is currently in first in the Eastern Conference and is coming off a 1-1 draw with defending MLS Cup champions Colorado.
"We created chances to win the game, so it?s good to get the point," Union coach Peter Nowak said. "I'm a little disappointed not to get three, but I think for us coming here, knowing how difficult it's going to be, I think it's a good motivation for [RSL]. We're playing another MLS Cup champion, Salt Lake, and it?s going to be a really tough game."
The Union will be without the services of striker Carlos Ruiz because of international duty and midfielder Amobi Okugo because of injury. Also, midfielder Justin Mapp is questionable, and midfielders Michael Farfan and Stefani Miglioranzi are probable.
RSL will be without midfielder Javier Morales, who is out for an extended period with a broken ankle, while forward Paulo Jr. is out with a hip injury. Defender Robbie Russell is questionable with a hamstring, while midfielder Collen Warner is probable with an ankle sprain.
