Nazarit's stoppage-time winner gives Chicago win at Columbus
Jun 12, 2011 - 10:12 PM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire snapped an 11-game winless run in major League Soccer action with a 1-0 win over the Columbus crew at Crew Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Cristian Nazarit scored the game's lone goal a minute into second-half stoppage time to help the Fire (2-4-8) to the much-needed victory.
Neither team was able to muster much offense in the match, with the Crew (4-4-6) unable to force Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson into making a save in the game.
Chicago only got four shots on target, but it was a hustle play by Orr Barouch in the closing minutes that led to the goal. Dominic Oduro started the play when he played back to Barouch on the right side of the Crew penalty area. Barouch took on three defenders and managed to get a shot off that Columbus goalkeeper Will Hesmer got on hand on, but Nazarit was there to knock home the rebound for his first goal of the season.
The goal snapped a streak of over 280 minutes without scoring a goal for the Fire.
