Defensive error costs Chivas against Dallas
Jun 19, 2011 - 4:46 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA midfielder Michael Lahoud's night changed dramatically in the span of 15 minutes in the second half of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to FC Dallas at The Home Depot Center. With Chivas trailing 1-0 in the 70th minute, Lahoud fired a long-range shot toward the Dallas net that took a wicked deflection off of a Dallas defender and slipped past a diving Kevin Hartman in the Dallas net to level the match.
It was Lahoud's first goal of the season and put the Goats in position to steal at least a share of the points.
However, things took a big turn for the worse 15 minutes later.
A flicked header from Dallas' Andrew Jacobson put the ball into the Chivas penalty area, with Lahoud in position to clear it. But instead of playing the ball to safety, Lahoud allowed it to run through to the penalty spot, where Jackson happily poked it past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy for the winning goal.
Chivas (4-6-5) certainly didn't do a lot in the first half, and they fell behind in the 22nd minute when Jacobson set up Brek Shea's sixth goal of the season.
Kennedy then made a nice save on Fabian Castillo early in the second half when Castillo burst into the penalty area and shot the ball toward the far post, only for the keeper to tip it off the woodwork.
The save kept Dallas in the game, and after Lahoud scored to level the match, Kennedy once again came to the rescue with a diving stop on a Daniel Hernandez free kick 10 minutes from time.
But he was unable to keep out Jackson's shot after Lahoud's error, which hands Chivas its second straight defeat.
Dallas (8-4-4) has won three of its last five contests and sits in second place in the Western Conference.
