Portland tries to get back to winning ways in Dallas

Jun 24, 2011 - 9:35 PM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Portland Timbers go in search of their first road win in Major League Soccer on Saturday when the club visits Pizza Hut Park to take on FC Dallas.

The Timbers have been strong at home in their inaugural MLS campaign, putting together five wins in eight games at Jeld-Wen Field, but with just two points from six away matches, Portland finds itself in seventh place in the Western Conference table.

A wild 3-3 draw against Red Bull New York on Sunday snapped a three-game losing streak for Portland, but the team was unlucky not to come away with three points as New York's Dwayne De Rosario buried a penalty kick at the final whistle to steal a point.

Portland fell behind 1-0 at halftime but rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the second half, only to let the visitors back into the game late.

"Guys are gutted right now. That's two games in a row where we've given up some points late in games and we thought we deserved more," said Portland captain Jack Jewsbury. "We've got to take the positives of the way we approached the second half and take that into Dallas next week."

Dallas responded well in its last match to a 4-1 defeat against Sporting Kansas City by recording a 2-1 victory over Chivas USA on the road.

"This was a game for us to kind of get back on track," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said following the Chivas match. "As I mentioned to the guys, the most important game is the game after that performance [vs. Sporting], and tonight we fought for every ball. We competed and we had scoring opportunities."

With two wins from their last three games, the Hoops find themselves in third place in the Western Conference, with some of their recent success being owed to Brek Shea.

After starting the season in central defense, Shea has been moved up to the midfield and responded by scoring six goals this season, including three in his last five games.

The two teams met earlier this season in Portland, with the Timbers emerging as 3-2 winners, a result that Dallas is hoping to turn around on Saturday.
