Chivas eyes better home form against San Jose

Jul 5, 2011 - 10:10 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Earthquakes were just five minutes away from a comeback win over Red Bull New York on Saturday before Joel Lindpere's long-range shot took a wicked deflection off of Earthquakes defender Bobby Burling.

The ball ended up flying past goalkeeper Jon Busch and it left the 'Quakes with just a share of the points, a result that was hard to take for coach Frank Yallop.

"[We're] disappointed to concede a late goal, but I guess the nature of a deflected shot is always hard to take," Yallop said.

Now, the Earthquakes will try to snap a three-game winless streak when the club visits Chivas USA on Wednesday, with the Goats searching for better results themselves.

Like San Jose, Chivas is coming off of a draw, with the Chicago Fire taking a first-half lead only to have Nick LaBrocca cancel out the opener in a 1-1 match.

The result snapped a three-game losing streak for coach Robin Fraser's team, and the boss was upbeat following the match, believing his team can build on some of the things from Saturday's contest.

"I think we need to talk about where we are today and what we're doing and keep working with these things and get better and better and more precise," Fraser said. "I thought we created a few decent chances tonight and maybe could've done better, but for us it's a continual work in progress."

Chivas currently resides in seventh in the Western Conference, three points back of San Jose, but the theme at The Home Depot Center seems to be about a young team maturing and growing, not just the end result.

"As a group, we're still putting it all together; we're leaving it all on the field and I think fans can see how good we can be," said goalkeeper Dan Kennedy. "We're working to get where we need to be for 90 minutes and we're so close, I really feel like we are. It'll happen for us. It's about building and it's about moving forward and it's about getting better each game."

The team has the potential to keep improving, but some better results at home, where Chivas has won just two of nine games this season, would be a good place to start.
