Real downs Dallas to extend unbeaten run to six

Jul 10, 2011 - 3:34 AM Sandy, UT (Sports Network) - Andy Williams scored two minutes into the second half to spark Real Salt Lake to a 2-0 win over FC Dallas on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium in Major League Soccer.

Fabian Espindola added the clinching goal four minutes into stoppage time and Nick Rimando posted his eighth shutout as Real extended its undefeated streak to six matches.

Real (8-3-6) improved to 5-1-3 at home, as it handed Dallas (10-5-4) just its second loss in its last 14 games. Dallas had its three-match win streak ended. The teams meet again Tuesday at Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup.

After just three combined shots on goal in the first half, Williams scored the opener off a free kick that Dallas goalie Kevin Hartman spilled into the net.

Williams drove the free kick from about 30 yards, and the dipping shot fooled the veteran Hartman and bounced off his left arm and across the line in the 47th minute.

Dallas rarely posed a threat to RSL's lead, and Espindola added his sixth goal of the year in stoppage time to cap the win. Will Johnson found Espindola, who dribbled into space in the area and shot to the bottom right to beat Hartman.

Real won for just the second time during its six-game unbeaten run, as Rimando made just two saves to earn the shutout.

After the midweek Open Cup game, Real visits Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 16 for its MLS match and Dallas hosts D.C. United the same day.
