Dallas held to draw by D.C. after missed chances

Jul 17, 2011 - 3:17 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas failed to take advantage of a pair of second-half chances on its way to a 0-0 draw with D.C. United at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday.

With the temperature reaching nearly 100 degrees in Frisco, the first half saw both sides struggle to create chances as the Hoops best effort came from Jackson, who forced D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid to make a save with his legs after a tight-angled shot.

United's Dwayne De Rosario has been in top form for the club since joining in a trade, and he tested Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area that the 'keeper did well to get down and save.

But the hosts failed to claim all three points after two good chances were wasted in the second half.

The first arrived just after the hour mark when Marvin Chavez got in behind the United defense and was left with only Hamid to beat. However, with Hamid coming off his line, Chavez scuffed his shot wide.

Jair Benitez then provided Jackson a chance to win the game in the 87th when his left-wing cross was delivered to the back post, only for the Brazilian to redirect the ball off the crossbar with a lunging attempt.

Dallas has now taken only one point from its last two games after a three- match winning streak, while United is unbeaten in its last five contests, with four ending in draws.
