Chivas snaps New England's three-game unbeaten streak

Aug 7, 2011 - 5:46 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution failed to extend their unbeaten streak Saturday, falling to Chivas USA 3-2 at Gillette Stadium.

"The goals we gave away were atrocious, bottom line," New England coach Steve Nicol said. "Defensively, we let down the rest of the team. We made some great chances - fantastic chances when you think about when we should've scored - and we've lost again."

New England's new Designated Player signing Milton Caraglio made his debut, but was unable to mark the occasion with a goal.

Alejandro Moreno opened the scoring for Chivas through a well-worked goal.

Simon Elliott sent a long pass to Nick LaBrocca wide on the right side. LaBrocca controlled the ball and immediately crossed the ball in front of goal where Moreno, taking advantage of some miscommunication in the Revolution defense, tapped it into the net.

LaBrocca recorded a goal of his own in the 59th minute, as he displayed a great bit of skill to free himself from the defender in front of him before roofing a shot into the back of the net.

New England pulled a goal back in the 69th minute after substitute Diego Fagundez was brought down in the box. Shalrie Joseph converted the penalty for his seventh goal of the season.

Moreno tallied his second of the game in the 80th minute after some more great build-up play from Chivas. Moreno got on the end of a low cross and calmly slotted the game-winner into the back of the net.

New England was able to get a late goal in the 86th minute from Fagundez, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal.

Chivas (7-8-8) is proving to be a consistent team, as the win improves its road record to 3-4-4 in comparison to its 4-4-4 home record.

"It's very important that we get this result and we come out of this with some confidence and feel that we can get some results on the road," Chivas coach Robin Fraser said.

The loss snaps a three-game unbeaten run for New England (4-10-9).

The Revs will face the Columbus Crew on Aug. 13 at Crew Stadium, while Chivas continues its road trip, facing Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field the same day.

"The team worked hard tonight and hopefully we can take what we did positively and rebound for Columbus next week," Joseph said.
