Chicago, New York share points in 2-2 draw

Aug 14, 2011 - 1:52 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York and the Chicago Fire entered their match having accumulated the most draws of any two teams in Major league Soccer this season, New York with 12 and Chicago with 13.

So it's no surprise that the two teams played to a 2-2 draw Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.

Thierry Henry opened the scoring for New York before Dominic Oduro and Sebastian Grazzini put Chicago in front before halftime. But Joel Lindpere was able to salvage a point for his side with this 64th minute strike.

Henry got the Red Bulls off the mark with a well-placed shot in the 9th minute following some brilliant build-up play.

Dax McCarty played a square ball at the top of the box to Dane Richards who laid it off to Henry. The French superstar curled a low one-time effort through traffic and inside the right post.

But Chicago answered quickly in the 16th minute when Nyarko played a low ball across goal that was creatively flicked past Red Bulls goalkeeper Chris Konopka.

The Red Bulls were left to rue some sloppy defending in the 24th minute, as they failed to clear a scramble in the box. Grazzini was able to slot home the loose ball to give the Fire the advantage going into the break.

New York emerged from halftime determined to equalize, which it did through Lindpere in the 64th minute.

Richards whipped a ball into the box that found Lindpere. The Estonian directed his one-time effort towards goal, beating a helpless Sean Johnson.

With the tie, New York (6-6-13) takes sole possession of third place in the East with 31 points, while Chicago (2-7-14) remains in last with 20 points.

The Red Bulls will face the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in its next MLS encounter on August 20th, while the Fire will host D.C. United on Thursday.
