Fire snap winless streak with win over Toronto

Aug 22, 2011 - 1:17 AM Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire defeated Toronto FC 2-0 at Toyota Park on Sunday for its first Major League Soccer win in over two months.

The last win for the Fire in league play came on June 12th with 1-0 road defeat of the Columbus Crew.

But goals from Dominic Oduro and Dan Gargan put a halt to Chicago's ten match winless streak, as the Fire took all three points against Toronto to climb out of the Eastern Conference cellar.

Chicago took the lead in the 16th minute when Gonzalo Segares sent a low pass across the face of goal. Oduro slipped in front of his defender and provided a deft touch with the outside of his right foot to flick a shot past Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic.

Gargan nabbed the insurance goal in the 69th minute, heading home a corner kick to secure the win for the Fire.

With the result, Chicago jumps into seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 24 points, moving ahead of Toronto and the New England Revolution. Toronto falls to last place, tied with the Revs with 23 points on the season.

Chicago is now unbeaten in its last three MLS matches, going 1-0-2 during that stretch.

Toronto was unable to build upon its last league result, a 1-0 win over Western Conference force Real Salt Lake.

The loss also signifies a continued struggle on the road for Toronto FC, as it is still winless away from BMO Field in 2011 regular season play.

The Fire (3-7-15) will stay home to host the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 27, while Toronto FC (4-12-11) will return to BMO Field when it faces the struggling San Jose Earthquakes the same day.
