N.Y. extends winless skid with draw against 'Caps

Sep 11, 2011 - 1:56 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York saw its winless streak extended to eight games on Saturday as the club played to a 1-1 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Red Bull Arena.

New York continues to struggle of late, going 0-4-4 in last eight matches. The club has not recorded a win since July 6.

Davide Chiumiento put Vancouver in front with his 23rd minute strike, but Juan Agudelo pulled back an equalizer for New York in the 68th minute.

Vancouver thought it had taken the lead in the eighth minute when Camilo ran through the New York defense to score, but the fine individual effort was disallowed, as Camilo committed a foul in the build-up.

But the writing was on the wall, as Vancouver eventually broke through midway through the first half.

Following a brilliant bit of skill from Camilo on the left flank, Chiumiento received a pass from the Whitecaps striker, turned, and roofed a shot past Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul.

Just before halftime, things went from bad to worse for New York, as Jan Gunnar Solli was shown a red card after bringing down Camilo.

Vancouver did not capitalize on the man advantage, as it conceded a goal halfway through the second period to let New York back into the match.

Second-half substitute Agudelo made an instant impact to rescue the Red Bulls, tapping in a pass from Rafa Marquez in the 68th minute to equalize and salvage a point.

Vancouver remains in last place in the Western Conference, accumulating a league-worst 22 points from its 27 games. New York, 33 points from 27 matches, misses an opportunity to move into a tie with the Houston Dynamo for fourth place in the East.

Both teams return to action on September 17, as New York (6-6-15) travels to Pizza Hut Park to face FC Dallas, and Vancouver (4-13-10) heads to The Home Depot Center to play the playoff-bound Los Angeles Galaxy.
