N.Y. aims to halt winless streak against Dallas
Sep 16, 2011 - 11:53 PM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York will hope to put a stop to its eight-game winless streak when it faces FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday. The Red Bulls have slipped to sixth place in the Eastern Conference following their 1-1 home draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC last weekend, their third straight tie.
In the draw with Vancouver, New York was again forced to come from behind to earn a point, something it has become accustomed to over the past few matches.
"It's one of those things you just feel like it's not one thing, one player. It's a mentality," defender Carlos Mendes said. "We were a goal down and then we started to control the game [against Vancouver]. You got to take the mentality from the start. We need to fix it quick because we don't want to keep chasing games."
Echoing those sentiments, New York's leading scorer Thierry Henry added that the club will have to overcome its poor road form at some point or another.
"We're a team that doesn't give up because we quite often come back in the game, but we have to act instead of reacting, and that's what we need to do," Henry said. "It's always great to win on the road, we all know that. When you look at our record on the road, it's not the best one in the league, but we're going to have to try and win games away."
Getting a result at FC Dallas, one of the top teams in Major League Soccer with 46 points on the year, is always a tall order. But it is going to be even tougher for the Red Bulls given who they will be missing.
New York will be without Jan Gunnar Solli (red card suspension), Rafa Marquez (yellow card accumulation), and Roy Miller (hamstring injury) for certain. The club could possibly be without Henry, Tim Ream, and Luke Rodgers, who are all game-time decisions hampered with injuries.
FC Dallas will also be missing a crucial component of its squad, as Brek Shea will have to sit out due to yellow card accumulation after being cautioned in the club's 2-0 loss to the New England Revolution last weekend.
The suspension actually comes at good time for Shea though, as he will be able to get some rest after a heavy fixture list that included MLS regular season matches, CONCACAF Champions League matches, and U.S. National Team friendlies.
"I'm a little banged up from the past couple of games," Shea said. "I'm dealing with a groin issue - it kind of bothered me [against New England], so that was part of it."
Despite claiming just one win in its last five regular season matches, Dallas looks well on its way to a spot in the playoffs, currently sitting in third place in the Western Conference with 46 points on the season.
