Luyindula rescues point for RBNY against Chivas USA

Mar 30, 2014 - 9:11 PM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Peguy Luyindula scored at the death to rescue a point for Red Bull New York in a 1-1 draw with Chivas USA on Sunday at Red Bull Arena.

Coming off a 3-1 loss to West rivals FC Dallas last weekend, Chivas USA hoped to bring home a positive result from a difficult road match and had the better of the play early on.

The visitors got the big break in the game in the 25th minute when rookie Thomas McNamara was clattered in the penalty area by New York defender Richard Eckersley while going up for a header, resulting in a penalty kick.

Torres stepped up and went straight down Main Street for his fourth goal of the campaign.

New York's best chance of the opening half came in stoppage time when Jamison Olave got his head on a free kick, but directed the ball just wide of the left post.

New York came out with much more attacking intensity in the second half, but were still misfiring for the majority of the second half as Goats goalkeeper Dan Kennedy produced several fantastic saves.

But with time ticking off the clock, Red Bull snatched a point in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Eric Alexander whipped a corner kick into the penalty area where Luyindula rose highest and nodded it past Kennedy to give the hosts a much-needed point.

The result sees New York improve to three points from its first four matches, while Chivas USA improves to five points from four games.
