Buddle's goal helps Rapids top TFC

Apr 12, 2014 - 10:13 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids continued their good run of form on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Toronto FC at BMO Field thanks to a 77th-minute goal from Edson Buddle.

The Rapids have now won three of their last four games while TFC has lost twice in its last three outings and was playing Saturday's game without both Jermain Defoe and Michael Bradley, who were out injured.

After a drab first half that produced little in the way of attacking flair, both sides picked up the pace in the second half and Kyle Bekker was unlucky not to put Toronto in front in the 76th minute when he curled a free kick around the wall and off the right post.

But just one minute later, the Rapids took the ball down the other end and Dillon Powers danced past two defenders to get into the penalty area before pulling the ball back for Buddle to slide underneath Toronto goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

The hosts pressed for an equalizer over the final 10 minutes, and the last chance in came in stoppage time with Bekker standing over another free kick.

He drove the ball past the wall and had goalkeeper Clint Irwin beaten, but he saw his shot crash against the right post, denying TFC a point.
