Jimenez leaves it late as 10-man Crew draw DCU

Apr 20, 2014 - 1:38 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Hector Jimenez rescued a point for the Columbus Crew with a goal in the 90th minute to help his side earn a 1-1 draw with D.C. United at Crew Stadium on Saturday.

The Crew was down a goal and down a man as the final minutes of the game ticked away, but Wil Trapp picked out Jimenez with a nice cross and he curled the ball inside the right post from the edge of the penalty area to give Columbus a second straight draw.

United took the lead in the 31st minute through Fabian Espindola, but the late goal denied the team a third successive win, despite the fact that Crew midfielder Bernardo Anor was sent off with nine minutes to play.

Nick DeLeon set up the first goal when he made a run through midfield and laid a ball off for Espindola, who lashed a shot past goalkeeper Steve Clark at his near post that flew into the top corner.

Josh Williams nearly set up a goal for Jimenez in the 56th minute, but it looked like the Crew would get nothing from the match in the 81st when Anor received a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Perry Kitchen.

But a great ball from Trapp unlocked the United defense and Jimenez provided a classy finish to help his side snatch a point.
