'Quakes edge Chivas to claim first win
Apr 27, 2014 - 4:31 AM Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Jose Earthquakes claimed their first win of the season on Saturday as Yannick Djalo notched the lone goal in the club's 1-0 defeat of Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium.The match was scoreless until the 66th minute when Djalo got on the end of Shea Salinas' cross to the back post and hammered a first-time effort past Dan Kennedy.
Kennedy was sent off in the 77th minute when he denied Alan Gordon a clear scoring opportunity by handling the ball outside of the penalty area, but the 'Quakes failed to add to their lead despite enjoying a one-man advantage for the remaining 13 minutes.
San Jose (1-2-3) climbs out of the Western Conference cellar to improve to six points on the season.
The club goes level on points with Chivas (1-4-3) as the Goats extend their winless run to seven games.
