Timbers remain winless after draw with Dynamo

Apr 27, 2014 - 9:10 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Timbers are still searching for their first win of the 2014 season after the club finished in a 1-1 draw at the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.

Will Bruin's 16th-minute goal put the Dynamo in front, but Gaston Fernandez netted his third goal of the campaign in the 33rd to cancel out the tally, giving the Timbers a third draw in their last four games.

Portland is now winless in its first eight games, while Houston is on a similar slide having failed to register a victory in its last six games.

Corey Ashe had a hand in the Dynamo's goal when he released Brad Davis down the left wing. Davis got the end line and crossed the ball into the six-yard box for Bruin, who applied the finishing touch with his head from a few yards out.

The visitors equalized in the 33rd when a deflected pass from Jack Jewsbury fell to Fernandez near the penalty spot, allowing him to score on the turn with an impressive first-time shot that found the upper corner of the net.

Houston had the Timbers pinned back in their own half of the field for much of the second 45 minutes, but the home side didn't take advantage as substitute Mark Sherrod failed to turn a shot on goal from eight yards after a good setup form Andrew Driver.
