RBNY tests unbeaten run against FCD
May 2, 2014 - 9:26 PM Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York will look to extend its unbeaten run in league play to four games when the club heads to Toyota Stadium on Sunday to face FC Dallas. The Red Bulls last tasted defeat in a 1-0 loss at D.C. United on April 12. They responded with back-to-back midweek wins over the Philadelphia Union and the Houston Dynamo as well as a 1-1 draw against the Columbus Crew last time out.
New York fell behind when Kosuke Kimura conceded the club's fifth penalty of the season, which Jairo Arrieta converted with great aplomb, but Bradley Wright-Phillips leveled the score in the second half with his fourth goal of the week.
Columbus became the sixth team to score first against New York this season but also became the fourth team to see the Red Bulls come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw.
"It shows a lot of character from the boys," Wright-Phillips said of the draw. "I think that's what happens when you win games, you start thinking that every game you should win. I think that's what we showed by coming back."
While New York enters the weekend in strong form, Dallas has struggled a bit in recent weeks.
The club was on fire at the beginning of the season, taking 13 points from its first five games. But suffering two defeats in its last three outings has seen Dallas surrender the top spot in the Western Conference to Seattle Sounders FC.
Dallas appeared to be poised to collect another win in its last outing after Mauro Diaz gave the side an early lead against D.C. United, but a 39th-minute red card to Zach Loyd turned the match in United's favor. Fabian Espindola scored twice and assisted on another as Dallas suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at RFK Stadium.
"You know, we sought confidence," Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz said regarding the team's mentality upon beginning the second half with only 10 men. "It is one of those things where we had a good group of guys out there, a group that we knew was going to have to work hard, but at the same time we thought we would be able to create a chance or two.
"We are going to obviously put defensive first and then try and get one or two chances to win the game and that was our mindset going into it. Obviously, things changed decently quick and we had to adjust from there. But, we went back out there and honestly we weren't playing for the 1-1 tie, we still had confidence in what we could do out there."
Sunday's clash at Toyota Park is likely to be filled with goals. Dallas is tied with Seattle for the league-lead with 18 goals scored, but Oscar Pareja's men have also conceded 14 goals thus far, tied with two other clubs for the league-high.
New York, meanwhile, leads the Eastern Conference with 13 goals scored, but has leaked 12 goals at the other end.
