Fagundez scores twice as Revs smash Sounders
May 12, 2014 - 12:05 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Diego Fagundez scored his first two goals of the season on Sunday in the first half as the New England Revolution slowed streaking Seattle Sounders FC, 5-0, at Gillette Stadium.Seattle entered the match having won its last five games, but it took only 14 minutes for the Revs to take the lead through Patrick Mullins.
The hosts then added three more goals in the opening 45 minutes before an own goal from Seattle's Chad Marshall in the first minute of the second half made it 5-0.
New England not only ended Seattle's winning run, but the team continued one of its own, notching a fourth win in its last five contests.
The opening goal arrived after Teal Bunbury's shot was saved by goalkeeper Stefan Frei, leaving a simple tap-in for Mullins to put the hosts in front.
Fagundez was still searching for his first goal of the campaign at the start of the match, and he opened his account in the 29th when he took a pass from Chris Tierney and rifled a shot past Frei that beat the goalkeeper at his near post.
Bunbury made it 3-0 six minutes later when he followed up his own shot to score on the rebound from a tight angle.
And things got even worse in the 41st for the Sounders as Bunbury played a ball across the field for Fagundez, who brought it down off his chest and fired a shot inside the far post.
New England had little to do after the break, but the Revs still added a fifth goal in the opening minute as Bunbury's right-wing cross deflected in off Marshall.
