Dynamo, Galaxy clash at BBVA

May 16, 2014 - 8:57 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Dynamo will aim for a rebound performance on Saturday when the club hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Houston won its second consecutive match back on May 7 with a 1-0 result over the Columbus Crew, but the club was unable to carry over the positive momentum and were punished, 5-2, by Real Salt Lake last weekend.

RSL did their damage in the first half with Javier Morales scoring twice in the first 17 minutes and Alvaro Saborio scoring before the break to take a commanding lead over the Dynamo.

Mark Sherrod made it 2-1 in the 22nd minute, but Saborio made it 3-1 in the 32nd minute. Sherrod completed his brace in the 56th minute to make it 3-2 in the 56th minute, but Salt Lake added two more goals with the extra man as Luke Mulholland and Morales scored inside the final 12 minutes to wrap up all three points.

"I don't think we did ourselves any favors at the beginning," goalkeeper Tally Hall said of his team's slow start. "We didn't really recover well. We need to do a better job. We're going to make mistakes, but it's not that we're not going to play well. We need to take a deep breath and fight better than we did in the first half."

"I put the team in a bad spot to have to play down to 10 men," said midfielder Servando Carrasco, who was shown a straight red card in the first half. "If I just stay on my feet that probably doesn't happen. I have to apologize to every single guy in the locker room because that's completely my fault and not theirs. I could've avoided that situation altogether."

Los Angeles, meanwhile, is coming off a thrilling 1-1 draw with Western Conference rivals the Portland Timbers last week at Providence Park.

It was a tight affair throughout the 90 minutes and it remained scoreless as the clock ticked into stoppage time.

The Galaxy opened the scoring in the second minute of stoppage time when a long throw-in from Dan Gargan bounced in the box and was nodded into the bottom right corner by an alert Robbie Keane.

LA had a chance to make it 2-0 in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Juninho broke in on goal alone following a Portland turnover. Darlington Nagbe raced back to catch Juninho and knock him to the ground, but the foul wasn't given.

Portland then came right back to equalize just moments later when Will Johnson found Diego Valeri alone on the right side of the penalty area. The Argentine's strike slipped under Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and into the far corner to put the sides on level terms.

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena voiced his displeasure with referee Armando Villarreal's non-call:

"Our team played very well, but the referee has to give us that call on Juninho. It's at least a foul or a yellow card or red card. We have to manage the game better at the end, we had five minutes of extra time, but listen, we fell asleep at the end of the game. A bunch of guys can do better on the last play, but we played very well and should have walked away with three points."

The teams met once last season, on May 5 at BBVA Compass Stadium and Houston came away with a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal from Andrew Driver.
