TFC tops RBNY to snap losing streak
May 17, 2014 - 10:40 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Toronto FC got back to winning ways on Saturday, snapping a three-game slide with a 2-0 victory over Red Bull New York at BMO Field.Jermain Defoe struck 12 minutes into Saturday's affair when Bradley Orr collected a giveaway in the midfield and released the Toronto striker with a well-weighted through ball. The Englishman took the chance with great aplomb, smashing his shot past Luis Robles into the roof of the net.
The Reds made sure of the win late on when Luke Moore, on his club debut, capitalized on some miscommunication between Robles and Chris Duvall to steal the loose ball and slot a shot into the empty net.
It was Toronto's first win over New York since 2009 and one that lifted the Reds (4-4-0) to 12 points on the season.
The Red Bulls (3-4-5) have lost two on the bounce to remain on 14 points.
