Orr strikes late to help TFC draw SKC
May 24, 2014 - 2:42 AM Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Orr netted a late equalizer at Sporting Park on Friday to help Toronto FC take a point from a 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City. After a scoreless opening period, Dom Dwyer broke the deadlock by getting on the board for the fourth consecutive match.
Luke Moore managed to draw Toronto level with his second goal in as many games, and while Dwyer thought he had won it with a late penalty, Orr struck in the first minute of stoppage time to see the two sides share the spoils.
Kansas City (5-4-3) improves to 18 points on the season, snapping a two-game slide but extending its winless run to three games.
Toronto (4-4-1) has taken four points from its last two games to climb to 13 points on the season.
Kansas City, already without Matt Besler due to the United States' World Cup efforts, lost another defender when Chance Myers was forced out of action due to injury in the 36th minute.
But it did not hamper Sporting's ability to take the lead in Friday's affair as Dwyer opened the scoring in the 47th minute, taking Sal Zizzo's square pass and slotting a shot past Joe Bendik with a first-time finish.
A 63rd-minute red card to Steven Caldwell put Toronto in a massive hole, but the Reds managed to sneak an equalizer on the counterattack four minutes later when Jermain Defoe slipped a ball into the path of Moore, allowing his compatriot to slot home the tying goal with a neat finish.
The two sides remained level until the 84th minute when Doneil Henry's foul on Igor Juliao in the box allowed Dwyer to fire home the go-ahead goal from the spot, his sixth goal in his last four games.
But Orr would have the last laugh as he latched on to Nick Hagglund's searching ball into the box to nod the tying goal past Eric Kronberg from close range.
