Union, Chivas USA meet at StubHub Center

May 30, 2014 - 9:21 PM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of struggling sides will clash on Saturday as the Philadelphia Union travel to the StubHub Center to battle Chivas USA.

The Union come into Saturday's match with the two wins on the season and on the heels of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Galaxy last weekend.

Fresh off being unceremoniously excluded from Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. team for the World Cup, Landon Donovan took his frustrations out on the Union, scoring two goals and becoming MLS's all-time leading scorer in the process, passing Jeff Cunningham with 136 career tallies.

Donovan helped open the scoring just two minutes into the game with a superb free kick that found the head of an unmarked Leonardo to set the Galaxy on their way.

Donovan's record-breaking goal came four minutes into the second half and Robbie Keane added a third tally in the 64th minute. Donovan made it 4-0 nine minutes from time and Maurice Edu pulled one back with a penalty kick conversion, but the result was already decided for the hosts.

Union midfielder Danny Cruz lamented his team's trend of conceding early goals.

"We can't give up a goal two minutes into the game and play from behind," Cruz said. "Obviously, if you look at the end the result you can see that it's a poor performance and we aren't happy. We just can't start a game like that and we continue to do it week in and week out, eventually, it takes a toll on you."

Chivas USA, meanwhile, has just one win in its last 11 matches -- a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids on May 11 -- and is coming off a 2-1 defeat at home against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.

The Timbers opened the scoring through new man Fanendo Adi in the 65th minute and he completed his brace in the 71st for a 2-0 lead.

Chivas defender Bobby Burling was shown a straight red card six minutes from time for a rash challenge and the Timbers saw out the remaining minutes to claim a much-needed victory.

"In the first half we came out with a lot of good intensity but we weren't clear with the ball, we were losing it too easily," said Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera. "We were improving in the second half but then they were very good in those two passes and in two situations they broke the back line too easily and they were clinical."

Last time the clubs met, Philadelphia claimed a 3-1 victory over the Goats at PPL Park on July 12, 2013.
