Chivas rolls over Whitecaps for fourth straight win

Jul 13, 2014 - 4:26 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Erick Torres' second-half tally proved to be the winning goal on Saturday as Chivas USA earned a 3-1 victory over the 10-man Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place.

Carlyle Mitchell gave the Whitecaps an early first-half lead, but the Goats responded with second-half strikes from Agustin Pelletieri, Torres and Leandro Barrera to hand the visitors their fourth straight victory in league play.

The result moves Chivas to 23 points on the season from 18 matches, while the Whitecaps stay on 25 points from 17 matches and in fifth place in the crowded Western Conference.

The hosts grabbed the lead in the 27th minute as Mitchell got on the end of a well-struck corner kick from Pedro Morales and nodded it through the legs of Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy for his first MLS goal.

Chivas pulled it back level two minutes into the second half when Pelletieri fired home his first MLS goal following a nice assist from Mauro Rosales, who finshed the match with three assists.

The momentum fully swung in the favor of Chivas in the 69th minute when Vancouver defender Jordan Harvey was shown a straight red card for a late, two-footed challenge on Oswaldo Minda, reducing the hosts to 10 men.

The winning tally came nine minutes from time when Rosales slid a through ball down the right flank for Marco Delgado to chase. Delgado then served a lofted cross into the box where Torres nodded it home for his 13th goal of the season.

The Goats then put the result away in stoppage time when Barrera fired home from midfield, beating the chasing Ousted, who was trying to track back following a Vancouver corner kick.
