Red Bulls aim to stay unbeaten against Rapids

Apr 28, 2015 - 8:16 PM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Red Bulls will aim to maintain their unbeaten start to the season on Wednesday when the club welcomes the Colorado Rapids to Red Bull Arena.

Red Bull New York under went significant personnel changes in the offseason as manager Mike Petke was removed, while stars Tim Cahill and Thierry Henry both moved on from New York.

Questions were raised as to how new boss Jesse Marsch would do with a vastly different squad, but six games into the season its been nothing but positive results. The club enters Wednesday's clash unbeaten with three wins and three draws for 12 points.

Last time out, the Red Bulls fell behind after nine minutes, but rallied to collect a point with a second-half equalizer.

The Galaxy grabbed the lead when Bradford Jamieson IV did well to get past two New York defenders and into the penalty area before ripping one low and hard into the bottom right corner, leaving New York goalkeeper Luis Robles with no chance.

The Red Bulls found an equalizer in the 58th minute with a bit of good fortune when Sal Zizzo played a low cross into the area that was blocked by the LA defense, but the ball popped right onto the head of Felipe, who nodded it home from close range.

Both teams created several scoring chances over the final 30 minutes as the fourth official's board showed four minutes of added time, but the clubs were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

"I thought that our reactions and awareness and our movement as a group was all very good. Very very good," said Marsch. "So in a lot of ways the first half might be one of the better halves of the season. These are positive I feel like we continue to move ourselves along against a good team you know we played really well and again we were a little bit unlucky not to get three points."

Colorado, meanwhile, will be looking for three points after claiming a point in a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas last time out.

FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 31st minute Fabian Castillo pushed a pass through four players to Mauro Diaz, who slammed it home to give the Hoops a 1-0 lead.

The Rapids found their equalizer late on when Dillon Powers sent a long pass across the box to Lucas Pittinari, who headed it back to an open Nick LaBrocca, who slammed it home.

"We need to win games like this. It's my responsibility as the captain to say that those are games we need to win," said Rapids defender Drew Moor. "Dallas is a good team. They came in with a game plan. We created a lot of chances and hit the post early again, but at home you have to put a game like that away. It's the players on the field, and the subs' responsibility to put a game like that away. It's very frustrating. You have to look at the positives, but I am going to take responsibility and say we have to put a team like that away."
