RBNY's Wright-Phillips nets two for New York bragging rights
May 11, 2015 - 1:17 AM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two goals as the Red Bulls New York defeated the New York City FC 2-1, in the battle of New York on Sunday at Red Bull Arena.In the first battle of New York, the teams were heading in separate directions. Red Bulls New York have only suffered one defeat while New York FC has only one win.
The Red Bulls struck first Lloyd Sam made a move and sent a cross in front of the goal, Bradley Wright-Phillips was standing alone and tapped the ball in to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
In the second half, Sam made a long run and crossed a pass to Sacha Kljestan who crossed the ball back to the middle of the box. Wright-Phillips deposited the ball in the back of the net to give the Red Bulls a 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
In the 76th minute, Kwadwo Poku crossed a ball to the corner of the box and RJ Allen sent the ball into the center of the box and Patrick Mullins scored on a sliding effort to cut the lead to 2-1.
New York City FC spent half of the game up a as Matt Miazga received two yellow cards in the first half. NYC mounted some late chances but the Red Bulls defense held tall to finish off the 2-1 win.
