Sounders' Barrett named MLS Player of the Week

May 19, 2015 - 4:42 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Sounders FC forward Chad Barrett was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday for the 11th week of the 2015 season.

Making his first start for the Sounders in seven matches, Barrett scored both of his team's goals on Saturday to carry the Sounders to a 2-0 win over Cascadia Cup rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place.

Barrett opened the scoring just five minutes in, when he raced past Whitecaps defender Kendall Waston to reach Clint Dempsey's pass and finish low past 'Caps goalkeeper David Ousted.

Barrett doubled the Sounders' lead seven minutes before intermission, getting on the end of a pass from Marco Pappa and volleying past Ousted from a tight angle.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
