Feilhaber powers Sporting past Sounders
Jun 7, 2015 - 2:38 AM Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Benny Feilhaber's late penalty kick was the difference on Saturday as Sporting Kansas City claimed a nervy 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC at Sporting Park. With both teams missing significant players, it was a chippy match from the outset as the sides were a bit off with their finishing all night.
Last time the clubs met it finished scoreless, and it appeared to be headed in that direction again, but the home side found the breakthrough six minutes from time when Dominic Dwyer got in behind the Seattle defense and was chopped down in the box by Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
Feilhaber, the American international, stepped to the spot and calmly slotted it past Frei.
Seattle pushed forward as the fourth official's board showed four minutes of added time, but the Sporting defense held firm to claim an important three points.
