TFC's Giovinco claims second straight Player of the Week honor
Jun 9, 2015 - 5:53 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Toronto FC attacker Sebastian Giovinco was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday for the second consecutive week.Giovinco, the former Juventus star, netted a pair of goals to lead Toronto FC to a 2-1 victory over East leaders D.C. United on Saturday as RFK Stadium.
After United's Steve Birnbaum gave the hosts an early lead, Giovinco leveled the score in the 34th minutes with a bit of magic. Taking on D.C. defender Sean Franklin, Giovinco worked his way into the box with a nifty move, then netted a beautiful finish from a tight angle at the near post.
Giovinco completed his double in the 83rd minute with more magic as he took two quick touches and blasted a long-range strike in behind United goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
