Galaxy's Zardes named Player of the Week

Jun 24, 2015 - 12:13 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday for the 16th week of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.

Zardes scored one goal and assisted on two others, leading the defending champion Galaxy to a 5-1 thrashing of the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at the StubHub Center.

The Galaxy's homegrown striker set up Juninho's 35th-minute goal, then scored one of his own shortly after halftime to set off the rout before capping his fruitful night with another helper on Sebastian Lletget's strike in the 65th minute.

Zardes now has four goals and two assists on the year, while LA are now 3-1-2 in their last six league matches.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
