Emilio awarded MLS Golden Boot

Oct 22, 2007 - 10:05 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- D.C. United forward Luciano Emilio has been awarded Major League Soccer's Golden Boot after finishing the season with 20 goals, the league announced on Monday.

The Brazilian narrowly beat another newcomer to the league, Juan Pablo Angel, who had 19 goals for the New York Red Bulls. New England's Taylor Twellman finished third with 16 goals.

Emilio, 28, had an outstanding debut season after signing from CD Olimpia of Honduras last January. His goals helped United retain the Supporter's Shield with a record of 16-7-7.

He will lead the attack when United open their playoff campaign against the Chicago Fire on Thursday night.
