Bayern's Martinez out of PSV clash
Oct 31, 2016 - 5:07 PM Javi Martinez will miss Bayern Munich's Champions League trip to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).Bayern's record signing suffered a thigh injury during the first half of the 3-1 win over Augsburg, and the club confirmed on Sunday that the Spain defender is ruled out.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti, said: "He wasn't feeling good. He felt something in his muscle and I didn't want to take any chances."
However, defender Rafinha has returned to training after recovering from a groin injury.
The trip will be an emotional one for Arjen Robben, who will play a competitive game at the Phillips Stadion against his former club for the first time.
Dutch winger Robben joined PSV as an 18-year-old in 2002 from FC Groningen and went on to make 75 appearances in two years, scoring 21 goals and helping them win the title.
"It's the first time since I've moved abroad that I get to play a Champions League game in Holland - and it's against my former club," the 32-year-old told the Bayern website.
"I am really looking forward to the game in Eindhoven. It's a bit like home.
"They were two great years and very important for my development."
PSV lost 4-1 in Munich and a defeat in the return fixture would end their chances of qualifying from Group D.
If Bayern win, and Atletico Madrid avoid defeat against Rostov, then they will seal qualification.
