Jets sign emergency keeper for two games
Nov 4, 2016 - 4:38 AM Newcastle have rushed in an emergency back-up goalkeeper for the club's next two A-League matches as their stocks continue to dwindle.Edgeworth FC goalkeeper Jim Fogarty will step up from the NPL for games against Wellington and Melbourne City as a back-up for Jack Duncan, who is already filling in following first-choice gloveman Ben Kennedy's season-ending achilles injury.
The Jets said a minor ankle complaint to youth team shot-stopper Pierce Clark had left coach Mark Jones' outfit in need of an 11th-hour replacement.
Fogarty's call-up denies 15-year-old Noah James an unlikely A-League debut after the Australian under-16 youth international was named in the squad on Thursday.
Fogarty will fly to New Zealand on Friday evening for Saturday's match with the Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.
The 24-year-old, who played for Edgeworth in the FFA Cup and NPL finals series, trained with the Jets eight years ago and has been involved in training with the club's youth team.
