Buhagiar settles in for Mariners stay
Dec 6, 2016 - 2:27 AM Trent Buhagiar's impressive start to his A-League career has earned him a contract extension with the Central Coast Mariners. The speedy winger has played in every game this season, leading coach Paul Okon to tie down the 18-year-old until the end of the 2018/19 season.
The Central Coast-raised Umina junior debuted late last season and has continued his growth as a wide attacker under Okon.
Buhagiar told reporters it was "a dream come true" to earn a long term deal at his local club.
"I've supported the club since it started (and) playing for them is quite amazing, it's a big thing for me," he said.
Buhagiar, who is yet to net a senior goal in 14 appearances, said he hoped he could continue to improve his performances with the added job security.
"It's on your mind all the time," he said.
"You want that contract and to make sure you're secured .. then you can focus on your football."
The Mariners take on manager-less Wellington Phoenix on Saturday night in Hamilton, New Zealand.
