Glory find some answers despite heavy loss

Dec 17, 2016 - 8:40 PM Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe is confident his A-League team turned the corner despite a 4-1 defeat at home to Sydney FC on Saturday night with their next two games away.

Glory have now lost three of their last four games and are vulnerable in sixth position only three points ahead of the second last placed Central Coast Mariners.

Perth's next two fixtures are away to Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers for the richly-talented and injury-free Glory.

The 4-1 scoreline on Saturday night doesn't tell the story that it was an improved performance on the previous week's loss to Newcastle.

Glory scored first thanks to Adam Taggart and despite an immediate Sydney response, continued to create the better first half chances.

Clinical finishing from the unbeaten league-leaders, two spectacular saves from Sydney 'keeper Danny Vukovic and Perth's struggles to get shots on target led to the unflattering 4-1 defeat.

Lowe tried some different things and was pleased with what his back three of Shane Lowry, Dino Djulbic and Aryn Williams offered, which he might now stick with.

"We'll look at it but it might be the way forward for us. We created opportunities, looked vibrant and the two wide boys Rizzo (Josh Risdon) and Waz (Marc Warren) did really well. Especially Rizzo looked devastating up there, he played an excellent game," Lowe said.

"We are trying something new so there will be a few holes in it here and there. But you can't fault the endeavour and effort trying to apply everything we spoke about. We just have to keep battling on and working at it."

Lowe was encouraged by the form of striker Adam Taggart as he builds on return from a calf injury while Diego Castro came off the bench after his own hamstring complaint.

Perth has a clear bill of health on the injury front with Rhys Williams and Richard Garcia among the players currently not getting a look in. Lowe isn't looking to make any drastic changes within or outside the squad.

"Sometimes things pop up and they might interest you, sometimes things don't pop up so it can't interest you. You just keep heading on and working hard, and hopefully things will change," Lowe said.

"Everyone's vying for positions in the team and everyone is training. Everyone's fit and available so we'll pick the team that seems to be right for that game at that part of the week."
