No WSW ill-will from Sydney FC's Redmayne

Jan 5, 2017 - 1:26 AM New Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne insists there's no hard feelings towards Western Sydney for trading him in to gain Vedran Janjetovic.

But he does admit the prospect of playing for their fiercest rivals is a little strange.

Redmayne has made his cross-town switch with outward enthusiasm, declaring he's fully committed to being a Sky Blue and delighted to reunite with former Central Coast goalkeeping coach John Crawley and colleague Danny Vukovic.

Days after Janjetovic tore into former club Sydney in an excessive social media rant, Redmayne was both diplomatic and professional about an undoubtedly tough situation.

Having already lost his starting spot to back-up Jerrad Tyson, the 27-year-old looked set to slip to third in the pecking order following Janjetovic's arrival.

He was faced with a choice: see out the remainder of his contract on the sidelines or join the Wanderers' most bitter combatant, albeit one at the top of the table and boasting familiar faces.

The latter came as a "welcome surprise".

"I think it's worked out for the best for each party," Redmayne said.

"Western Sydney is a fantastic club and I've got no hard feelings towards them or any individuals there.

"Sydney FC expressed interest, I was really excited and I've been warmly welcomed at the club.

"I'm looking forward to (playing the Mariners) this Sunday, but also playing in front of The Cove."

His first chance in front of home fans will come next Saturday night at Allianz Stadium, fittingly against Tony Popovic and his former teammates.

In reality, Redmayne will likely sit on the bench to support the in-form Vukovic, but the Gosford-born shot-stopper is still bracing for a hostile reception from travelling Wanderers fans.

"There might be, but I've got no hard feelings towards fans there - both fans are great sets of people," he said.

"I guess it is strange (signing for a rival), but it's a fresh opportunity ... I'm wearing the Sky Blue now and I'm fully committed to the morals and beliefs this team carries."

Same goes for his own game.

A string of early-season errors preceded Redmayne's demotion under Wanderers goalkeeping coach Zeljko Kalac and he hopes the highly respected Crawley, who mentored him as a 15-year-old, can help iron out problem areas.

"I'm back working with John and Danny now and we've got a fantastic working relationship," he said.

"I've already identified things I need to work on. Both John and Arnie have also identified things.

"I fully bought into the system the Wanderers were trying to play and I'll fully buy into the system Sydney's got."
