Jets coach Jones cops one-match ban
Mar 6, 2017 - 6:34 AM Newcastle coach Mark Jones will watch the Jets' next A-League clash with Melbourne City from the stands after copping a one-match suspension over his angry outburst during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Brisbane.Jones was dismissed from the dugout by referee Jarred Gillett after acting captain Jason Hoffman received two yellow cards inside 60 seconds at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Newcastle were ahead 1-0 when Hoffman was carded for dissent and then again over what appeared a soft yellow for a foul on Manuel Arana on the edge of the penalty area.
The Jets bench reacted angrily and Jones was ordered from the sidelines after Gillett consulted his linesman and fourth official.
Though the coach insisted he was not directing his spray at anyone in particular, the A-League match review panel on Monday ruled the 50-year-old had committed "offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official".
It handed him the mandatory one-match ban, meaning he will be absent from the sidelines at AAMI Park on March 18.
Meanwhile, Central Coast goalkeeper Paul Izzo will serve the mandatory one-game suspension for bringing down Bruno Fornaroli during the Mariners' 3-2 loss to Melbourne City.
