Ange whets McGree's appetite for more
Mar 30, 2017 - 3:41 AM Coach Ange Postecoglou may have barely uttered a word to Socceroos newcomer Riley McGree, but the experience has whet the rookie's appetite for more international exposure.Apart from a quick greeting, McGree says Postecoglou didn't speak with him individually during his call-up to the national squad for two recent World Cup qualifiers.
But the 18-year-old South Australian says he's not miffed by the lack of direct contact - he was just thrilled to be a part of the national team set-up.
"He's not that type of person to sit down with individual players and have a chat," McGree said on Thursday.
The Adelaide United midfielder, who didn't get a run in Australia's two recent qualifiers, said Postecoglou preferred group talks.
"He's the boss. He doesn't say much," McGree said.
"I didn't directly speak with him too much. If he wants to tell you something, he will tell one of his assistants and they will tell you.
"He does communicate but I don't think directly one-on-one.
"It's more the team will be sat down and then we have our meetings.
"He's passionate about what he wants, he's very driven to get what he wants."
McGree, who has been named as the A-League's March nominee for the young footballer award, said being part of Postecoglou's squad had whetted his appetite for more.
"It was a very good experience, especially as a young player," he said.
"It was good to mix with some great players and some great coaches.
"I just took everything in my stride and learnt as much as possible."
